I'm appearing at Art After Dark in Fuquay-Varina, NC, this Friday, so I made this adorable flyer. It's always interesting, trying to define yourself. I could focus solely on my books, and even narrow it down further to my children’s books or to my science fiction & fantasy and my newest story release. Or I could expand to include everything, like how many kids I’m homeschooling and the awesome things we’re all doing (our hiking co-op starts back this week!). I’ve gone for somewhere in the middle. My books will be on the table to speak for themselves, but what many locals don’t realize is that I love doing educational visits. I must, because I’ve been doing them in some capacity for longer than I’ve had children!
I will never forget one day in my 20s when I worked at the Boys & Girls Club and someone brought our class a rabbit and a few other small animals. One young child was so terrified they left their seat when the rabbit came close! Educational visits can help children experience things they never have before, and they usually have fun. Most children end up petting the animal by the end of the visit. Children love to ask about rabbit care, or what it is like being an author.
So yesterday I dropped off an incubator and hatching eggs at a local library (Dunn!), and today I made a flyer for Friday. Now you know a little about me, and if you’re local, you can stop by my table and we’ll have the most interesting conversations. If you are an educator or parent and have any questions, I am happy to share so that more children everywhere can experience God’s wonderful creation.
Much thanks to Working Aussies Homestead for providing the eggs for Dunn library (FB)! If you’ve never had chickens, I’m here to tell you that they absolutely heard me promising the library eggs, and decided to take a break from laying as a practical joke. (Actually, they don’t like the heat, and they do take breaks sometimes. My youngest chickens started laying, but the first eggs they lay aren’t the best option for hatching as they are often too small for a chick to stretch its wings, so to speak).
Oh, and I have some cool bookmarks for the event, to direct new followers to this substack! And my loyal, existing followers will be happy to know that I’ll be posting all the regular content here too going forward —book releases, reviews, “behind the scenes” and other fun things!
If you have any questions for me, let me know!
